Lice

Updated: 30th Oct 2023

Treatment

Treat contacts if they have active lice infestation.

1.       Insecticides – Malathion 0.5% or Permethrin 5%

2.       Wet combing – Bug buster kit.  Requires a minimum of four sessions spaced over two weeks and should be continued until absence of full grown lice is seen for three consecutive sessions.

3.       Dimeticone 4% (Hedrin) – dimeticone lotion applied to dry hair and scalp should be kept on for 8 hours or overnight and repeat after 7days.

In a pregnant or lactating woman wet combing or dimeticone is advised.
